The Messiah – Part 5: Ego Eimi and the Gates of Hades
Jesus led his disciples to a place they probably would never have visited voluntarily. It was not a place a devout Jew would visit — quite the opposite. It was considered absolutely unclean and repulsive. It was a satanic, pagan high place. Precisely there the Lord gave them — and us — a remarkable promise.
This time Martin talks about how, the closer Passover drew near, the clearer Jesus became in his statements about himself. This provoked the religious authorities immensely. And so, immediately before Passover, when the city was flooded with hundreds of thousands of festival pilgrims, it came to a death sentence. The official grounds for the charge were that he presented himself as Messiah and King.
Yet on the cross, YHWH himself confirmed exactly this in a very special and striking way.
Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king."
