The Messiah – Part 4: El'azar and the Sign of Jonah
After the religious authorities had officially rejected Yeshua as the Messiah, his ministry and his proclamation changed. Nevertheless, the Pharisees came to him with a demand for yet another sign that would prove him once more to be the Messiah. And he promised them that there would indeed be such a sign, "the sign of Jonah." They waited eagerly for it. How was one to imagine this? What was going to happen? What was he going to do?
Martin looks with you at the escalating situation in Jesus' ministry. For Yeshua rebuffed the scribes with a very serious parable that was precisely about this sign. Once again he turned their teaching on its head. When it finally happened and the sign occurred before their eyes, that again led to enormous stress. They were agreed: this Jesus is highly dangerous for the system; he deserves the death penalty!
He said to him, "If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead."
