One church stands out in particular: Laodicea. For Jesus addresses it in very clear, indeed sharp words . In doing so, He specifically mentions some peculiarities and features of the city. We read of terms such as “rich,” “gold,” “white garments,” “eye salve” and “lukewarm.” Why does the Lord address precisely these things? For the people of Laodicea they were certainly not abstract images, but things that were part of their everyday life.
