Come Out of the Salt Shaker
Every one of us knows what Jesus said: “You are the salt of the earth.”
When we look at the context of these words, which He gave to His followers in the Sermon on the Mount, we find that they are anything but reassuring . For He speaks of our being reviled and persecuted, and of evil coming against us with lies. Then follow His words: “You are the salt of the earth!”
He does not say: once you keep every rule and instruction, you will be salt. Nor does He say: once you have done everything perfectly and rightly, you will be salt. Nor even: once you have overcome all your problems and challenges, you will be salt. No – He said that we are salt.
Sigrid looks with you at the subject of salt in the Bible. It is astonishing how much the Word of God has to say about it, and how important it is for us as followers of Jesus here and now .
