Resistance Movement
I was thinking about resistance movements, about people who are willing to go into open resistance for their personal convictions. They have existed at all times, and they have often brought forth something new. The word "resistance movement" means: "A movement that carries on the fight against an unlawful, oppressive regime and organizes resistance." #
People who have given their lives to Jesus are actually resistance fighters too. They stand personally for the advance of the kingdom of God and take a stand against the unlawful, oppressive activities of the devil.
The story of Elijah came to my mind about this. After a great victory over the power of darkness, Jezebel threatens him. And Elijah reacts with fear. He no longer sees any way forward and flees. He runs away.
How do we react to the enemy's threat? Fear, withdrawal, depressed thoughts, giving up? God, through an angel, called on Elijah to get up and strengthen himself so he could go on:
… an angel touched him and said to him, "Arise and eat."
1 Kings 19:5
That is the best response. Get up and strengthen yourself on the assurances and promises of God … and go resolutely into resistance against the schemes of the devil in your life, your family, your surroundings.
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, and having done all, to stand!
Ephesians 6:13
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist . Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, Resist him, firm in your faith.
1 Peter 5:8-9
