There are situations in our lives in which we are exposed to extreme distress. Worries, bullying, negative diagnoses, job loss, fear and much more. David really knew many such threatening challenges. The Bible reports on them in detail.

In 1 Samuel 19, for example, it says that King Saul had him watched in order to have him killed the next morning. In Psalm 59, David takes up this dramatic situation and pours out his heart to the Lord about this life-threatening situation. At the end of the psalm he says what I wish for you too, no matter how oppressive your situation may currently look:

But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress. O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.
Psalm 59:17-18

With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.
Psalm 60:4

Saul sent messengers to David's house to watch him, that he might kill him in the morning. But his wife Michal told David, "If you do not save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed."
