The parable of the ten virgins is very well known. It belongs to Jesus' end-times discourses and is embedded in Jewish wedding customs. All ten virgins have oil with them at the start and "shine." All of them wait. All of them grow drowsy and fall asleep. But at some point the moment on God's timeline arrives. Suddenly everyone is challenged, jolted awake, stirred up. Now it counts! But for some there is, in the truest sense of the word, a rude awakening.

And in the end it comes to the shocking statement of the bridegroom to the insufficiently prepared virgins: "I do not know you!"
