Where Are You Positioned? – Part 2 – Romans 13 and the Limits of Our Obedience
For a long time, this Bible verse led a shadowy existence in Western Christianity, Romans 13:1: “Be subject to the authorities!”, even though it didn't seem to have much significance in our society. But a few months ago, that changed abruptly, and the verse became one of the most frequently cited Bible passages at all.
Why are so many Christians suddenly insisting on this verse?
What are they trying to convey when they cite this Bible passage? Are these positions in accordance with the overall message of Scripture? How has the doctrine of unconditional obedience affected the congregations?
And what does God actually have to say about this?
Does He ask of us Unlimited obedience to state authorities? And if this obedience has limits: When, then, are we supposed to be obedient, and when not?
