180 years ago, in a small village on the edge of the Black Forest, one of the greatest breakthroughs in the ministry of deliverance ever recorded took place. As far as we know, it is the most dramatic deliverance ministry ever recorded in writing. In 1844, Pastor Johann Christoph Blumhardt was asked by the Royal Württemberg Higher Church Authority to conduct a detailed account of the prayer battle for a young woman to be written on behalf of Gottliebin Dittus, which had taken place in his parish in 1842–43.

The pastor was breaking new ground in many ways and suddenly found himself thrown into a struggle he could never have imagined. The experiences he had, the various demonic manifestations, which led to the confrontation with the Power of Magic and his personal perseverance and dedication are as moving as they are instructive.
