Since ancient times, humans have built towers. They correspond to the human need for overview, orientation, security, protection, refuge, but also for displaying power and self-presentation. Often they are a symbol of dominion and a claim to possession.

We find the most famous tower of all time in Genesis 11. It is the Tower of Babel and to this day it stands as a landmark of human arrogance and the resulting judgment of God. It is a tower that represents the ungodly world system of all ages indeed and became a symbol of human hubris (Greek: sacrilegious arrogance).
