The Book of Esther recounts dramatic events that took place during the Persian period, about 2,500 years ago. It was about nothing less than the planned extermination of the Jewish people. The instigator of it all, Haman, represents anti-divine forces that seek to thwart God’s plans and wipe out the Lord’s people as much as possible. But his plans were thwarted by Esther’s courageous intervention, and soon Haman was hanged on the gallows he himself had ordered to be built.
