Pillars of Heaven
A sermon from the Heavenward Conference in May 2025 in Rotenburg an der Fulda.
Sigrid talks about the spiritual significance of pillars. They are symbols of constancy, resilience, strength, and faithfulness. Already in Solomon's temple, they embodied God's protection and power. Jacob erected pillars to mark encounters with YHWH — an expression of his growing relationship, which culminated in a new name: Israel. The pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire, too, testified to God's presence among his people.
In the New Covenant, the apostles are called pillars, and likewise we, as the congregation, are living stones, shaped and polished by the Spirit, so that we stand load-bearing within the house of God. Our calling is to stand firm, carried by the cornerstone, Christ. And in Revelation, the handbook for overcomers, it is even said in the letters to the churches that Jesus makes us into pillars in the temple of God — strong, steadfast, and oriented toward heaven.
The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God
