Pain is one of the great subjects of the Bible. It belongs to life. Every single person is confronted with it. It touches our whole humanity: the body, for example through illnesses or ailments; the psyche, for example through the loss of a loved one; and the Spirit, for example in the question of eternal lostness.

But only through the fall did pain enter into our human existence. In creation, which according to God's verdict was "very good" (Genesis 1:31), there was no suffering, pain, decay, or death.
