In our lives there is such a thing as “spiritual weeds”. They grow where good fruit should really be growing. In the parable of the four kinds of soil, Jesus describes how thorns choke and kill the sprouting word. He speaks of worries, the deceitfulness of riches and other desires. They rob what He wants to bring forth in us of space, light and strength.

In the parable of the weeds among the wheat, Jesus also shows that truly not everything that grows in our lives comes from God. The enemy sows his weed seedamong the good seed of the Lord. That is why our heart needs tending. Weeds must be recognized before they grow up. It is about wrong thoughts, bondages, habits and other things that crowd out the purposes of God.
