The question in the title sounds confusing, because many people think, “Joy is just a feeling—what else could it be? It’s an emotional thing.”

But For God's children, things look a little different. If we feel “unjoyful,” that may be true on an emotional level, but on a higher level—in the spirit—joy literally lives within us. As Christians, we have a source of joy and enthusiasm within us, which the people of the world know nothing about. We can turn to this source at any time, no matter where we are, no matter how we’re feeling, no matter what our current emotions tell us. It belongs to us—and is just a prayer away.

With Holy Communion—please prepare.
