The Greek word 'apolutrosis,' used in the New Testament for redemption, means deliverance through the paying of a ransom. The ransom that had to be paid for our redemption was nothing other than the blood of Jesus shed on the cross. The "means of payment" for our rescue was not found in Jesus' wallet; it flowed in and out of his veins. There was nothing to haggle over or bargain down. There was no discount and no rebate. Jesus gave his blood, down to the very last drop, for us.
