The Matter of the Shofar – No Sound of This World
Blowing the shofar is unfamiliar to many Christians. For many it's something newfangled, Jewish, Old-Testament-ish, and somehow stressful. Conspicuous and loud people blow into a horn with great enthusiasm and are convinced that by doing so they are really moving and changing something in the spiritual world. Sometimes combined with flags, banners, dance, proclamations, and shouts of joy, the shofar is, for quite a few pastors and leaders, simply a hot-button topic. A major cause of the lack of understanding lies in deficient Bible translations.
To bring clarity to the matter and awaken understanding for the topic, Martin talks about the — or also the — shofar. For this is not some minor, marginal biblical topic. Over 80 Bible passages in Scripture deal with the shofar horn and the sound of horns. The most important thing is: it is not a musical instrument, but a spiritual weapon for destroying hostile strongholds and fortresses. But what is this view based on?
It will only take a moment, the blink of an eye, at the last shofar. For the shofar will sound, and the dead will be raised to eternal life, and we too will be changed.
