Let the Woman Be Silent in the Church … Oh Really?
The role of women in the Christian congregation is again and again a subject that causes controversy, and creates stress, and puts brothers and sisters under pressure . In particular, the ban on preaching — actually a ban on speaking — for women is a point of contention here. Essentially there are three passages from Paul's letters that are quoted to prove that women must fit into a certain spiritual pigeonhole. But does what is taught in some legalistic circles really correspond to the overall testimony of the New Testament?
Martin looks with you at the relevant passages, talks about how letters were written in the time of the first Christians; explains why Paul seems to contradict himself in some statements, and shows us how the New Testament really sees women.
