In the time of the prophet Elisha, there arose a terrible emergency situation. He was inside the city of Samaria, and it was besieged by the enemy. Conditions grew ever more dramatic. When a case of cannibalism came to light, the situation escalated, and the authorities decided to kill Elisha as a scapegoat. But he had received an unexpected, indeed in the truest sense of the word "unbelievable," word from God, which would suddenly change the whole state of affairs completely. But not everyone wanted to give credence to the prophetic word.

Martin looks with you at the story of the siege of Samaria. It has far more to tell us than we generally assume. For the whole thing is a prophetic picture for our situation today and in our own day too there are prophetic promises that seem unbelievable, incredible, and implausible.

All the more firm we hold the prophetic word, and you do well to pay attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
