The Bible tells us in detail about the office and ministry of the priests. But does that belong only to the time of the Old Testament? Certainly not! For the New Testament speaks of it too: “But you are a … royal priesthood.”

That is more than a statement. It is the description of our identity and the foundation of a calling that is meant to shape our life of faith. For “You are…” also comes with a commission. Our calling has a divine purpose!

When the New Testament speaks of a royal priesthood, it isn't talking about trained theologians, church office-holders or specially chosen people. It is about the entire ekklesia, the people of God – all of us carry a divine calling, a priestly identity and a commission that reaches far beyond our personal life of faith.
