The Greek word for joy is “chara.” It appears frequently in the New Testament and is related to the concept of grace “charis.” Chara is not merely about superficial cheerfulness or a good mood, but rather about a deep, inner joy. It's about a long-term attitude, which is independent of external circumstances and difficulties because it springs directly from our relationship with God.

With Holy Communion—please prepare.

That … the exuberance of their joy … proved to be overwhelming
2 Corinthians 8:2
